For my LINK project, I did what's called a Feasibility Study. This is essentially just an overview of everything that the project is going to need. Since my mentor worked more as a salesman, this allowed me to understand what he does a little bit more, while still getting the engineering aspect. So what this entails is explaining how I arrived at my data, what needs to be purchased based off of this data, how much this will cost, and finally, how long it will take to pay itself off. This was really fun, because I got to some cool math, and had to problem-solve in order to arrive at an answer.
